A note on preaching at St. Augustines

Preaching at St. Augustine's is always rooted in the scripture.

Preaching at Sunday morning services, weekday services, and special services is usually based on the Biblical readings set out by the Revised Common Lectionary. We believe that this facilitates hearing what God wants us to hear rather than having our preacher decide what he wants us to hear and then selecting texts which support his point of view.

Preaching at Sunday evening services is series based. That is, a book is chosen in the Bible (past examples include Revelation, James and Genesis) and our preachers work through the book week by week in a series of sermons. This allows us to hear the whole sweep of what God has to say to us in a particular book. Alternatively, a series theme is chosen and readings are selected in accordance with that theme.
