St. Augustine’s: A church family in the heart of the city

A Lenten series of learning and reflection, this course features presentations by Dr. René Boeré followed by Q&A and discussions. Join us Wednesday evenings from 7:00-8:30 pm March 11 through April 1 (April 1 following the scheduled service). Saint Paul, the Apostle to the Gentiles, undertook a series of evangelizing journeys that are recorded in the Acts of the Apostles. This, one of the richest historical and geographic records from the ancient world, describes the spreading of formal Christian faith to Jews and Gentiles with the establishment of new ‘churches’ in the regions of modern Turkey and Greece. Paul’s journeys also include the Mediterranean Sea with stops in Cyprus, Rhodes, Crete and Malta, and culminated in Rome, the capital of the empire. Here the apostle was executed in the vanguard of thousands of faithful witnesses – martyrs – for Christ resulting from the inevitable confrontation of the Gospel of forgiveness with the idolatry and power structures of the pagan world. The series will follow, virtually, along the paths taken by Saint Paul, including many ancient sites, considering the motivations and strategies of Paul and his teams. Participants are encouraged to read along in the New Testament during this pilgrim journey in the steps of the great apostle.
