Advent & Christmas 2025
Welcome to the season of Advent, from November 30 until December 24, followed by the season of Christmas from December 25 until January 6.
Advent has been described as a time of waiting and thoughtful reflection prior to Christmas. At this time, 25 members of St. Augustine’s parish have agreed to ponder a passage of scripture and share their own thoughts and prayers, resulting in a daily “Advent calendar” that you may use for your own daily devotions. Join us on this virtual journey through the season by following our Advent Calendar 2025 with a new reflection every day, accompanied by beautiful images and music.
Advent is also a season of special worship. You will notice an Advent focus within all of our regular services, along with special events. These include a series of late evening services called Compline, also known as Night Prayer – these beautifully contemplative services all take place at 9 pm and feature Taizé singing. And don’t miss our eagerly-anticipated Christmas Pageant during the 10 am Sunday service on December 14. Another highlight is the Service of Lessons and Carols at 3 pm on December 21, a special treat for those who love Christmas music. Also on December 21 is the Longest Night Service at Southminster United Church featuring the participation of clergy from St. Augustine’s. On December 24 you will have two opportunities to welcome the Light of the World; the Christmas Eve Family Holy Communion service at 7 pm (with activities for young children), followed by the Candlelight Holy Communion at 10 pm. The next day you are invited to join us in worshiping the newborn King at our Christmas Morning Holy Communion service at 11 am.
This season, come in and experience the beauty of liturgical worship. We invite you to attend as many of these services as you are able.
