Lenten Study Series 2022

In person at the church or via Zoom

Reading old books is difficult. We have a sense that it might be good for us, in the same way that eating our vegetables is good for us. But what if reading books from the distant past could be valuable and fun? This series of six lectures offers insights from old books, all chosen to fit the Lenten season. Join Eric Bateman, The Rev. Br. Jason Carroll and Dr. Tim Pope as they introduce us to some of the old books that they have found especially helpful.

The series will begin at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 1 (Shrove Tuesday), and continue each Wednesday following until April 6.

Topics/Books include:

  • Why Read Old Books?
  • The Confessions of St. Augustine
  • The Pilgrim’s Progress by John Bunyan
  • The Conquest of Constantinople by Geoffrey of Villehardouin
  • Paradise Lost by John Milton
  • Catholicism: Christ and the Common Destiny of Man by Henri de Lubac
